BIRDING MACHUPICCHU

DAY 01: CUSCO-OLLANTAYTAMBO-MACHUPICCHU TOWN

Leaving from Cusco in the morning to Ollantaytambo by bus or van two hours and after that take the train along the Urubamba river from the train we can see: White-Capped Dipper and Torrent Duck recorded fairly regularly in this part of the river when we get to Machupicchu town (Aguas Clientes) (2000masl/6561f) will do the check in at hotel and after lunch will begin birding Machupicchu.

In the afternoon we are heading to botanical garden where we can spotting: Green Hermit, Chestnut Breasted Coronet, Silver-Back Tanager, Fawn-Breasted Tanager, Saffron- Crowned Tanager, Slate-Throated Redstart, Bananaquit, Rust and Yellow Tanager , Tropical Kingbird, Silver-Beaked Tanager; today we will have the first option to see the conspicuous masked fruiteater (endemic), one big group of tyrannulets and flycatchers are located here such as: Sclater’s Tyrannulet , Marble -Faced Bristle-Tyrant, Ashy-Headed Tyrannulet , etc. Slaty-Capped Flycatcher, Inca Flycatcher (endemic), and White-Throated Tyrannulet etc.

DAY 02: MACHUPICCHU-CUSCO

We leave early this morning to citadel of Machupicchu considered one of the new seven wonders of the world (2400masl/7874f) this place is surrounded by dense vegetation of bamboo and bushes; here we looking for noisy Inca Wren (endemic), Parodi's Hemispingus (endemic), and Green and White Hummingbird (endemic) which is very similar to White- Bellied Hummingbird possible to see here too. Another important group are the woodpeckers whit their remarkable behaviors are distinctive we having: Golden-Olive Woodpecker, Ocellated Piculet, Bar-Bellied woodpecker, Pearled Treerunner, etc. The almost terrestrial bird with shy behavior hard to see are Azara's Spinetail, Gray-Breasted Wood- Wren, Rufous Antpita, Chesnut-Capped Brush Fich, are inhabitants here

In the afternoon after lunch in Machupicchu town will leave to Cusco by train and then by bus or van.
